Photographic Safari
Purpose-built vehicles, the best light and the time to wait for the shot that matters.
✦ About the Experience
Photographic Safari
A photographic safari is built around a single priority: getting you the image you came for. That changes everything about how the days are run. Departures are timed to the soft, golden light at the edges of the day, sightings are worked patiently rather than rushed, and the whole rhythm of the trip bends to the picture rather than to a checklist of species.
The vehicles are different too. Specialist photographic safaris use open-sided or convertible vehicles with beanbags, gimbals, charging points and low, eye-level shooting positions, and they carry fewer guests so everyone has room and a clear line of sight. Many trips are led by a professional photographer-guide who understands both the wildlife and the gear, and who can help with everything from composition and settings to reading animal behaviour a beat before it happens.
Private conservancies are often the setting of choice, because off-road driving and a low density of vehicles allow the careful positioning that great wildlife photography demands. Whether your passion is portraiture of the big cats, dramatic action at a river crossing or the wider art of the landscape, the experience is shaped around it.
These safaris suit all levels, from enthusiasts with a first proper camera to seasoned professionals. The common thread is time and patience: the willingness to sit with a sighting and wait for the moment, which is exactly what produces the photographs people remember.

Good to know
Do I need professional equipment?
No, these safaris welcome all levels and any capable camera. That said, a telephoto lens makes a real difference, and we are happy to advise on kit before you travel.
Can a guide help with my photography?
Yes. Many of our photographic safaris include a specialist photographer-guide who assists with settings, composition and anticipating the action, while standard guides are also skilled at positioning the vehicle.
Why choose a private conservancy?
Conservancies permit off-road driving and limit vehicle numbers, which lets your guide position you precisely for the light and the shot. The result is cleaner backgrounds and far less crowding.
